Santiago Venegas, Technical Director for Mandeville Auditorium

Prior to joining the UC San Diego's Department of Music, Santiago Venegas spent 20 years with the SeaWorld San Diego Entertainment Department, most recently as the supervisor of the Theatrical Maintenance team. While primarily specializing in lighting design and special effects, he has extensive expertise in a wide range of theatrical production elements, such as coordinating technical support and stage crews, sound, special effects, scenery, rigging, props, projection, multimedia, and artist hospitality.

He coordinated multiple performances per year across various indoor and outdoor theatrical venues, and also coordinated his team’s contributions to large-scale seasonal events, such as the Summer Spectacular, Christmas Celebration, Mardi Gras, Seven Seas Food and Beer Festival, and Halloween. If you ever watched the Skytower Christmas tree lights move along to a musical medley on the radio, that was one of his many projects!

Santiago also works locally as lighting designer for theatrical productions for Vanguard at Westminster Community Theater in Point Loma. In his hometown of Cutler/Orosi in the Central Valley, he played saxophone in the marching band at Orosi High School and played guitar in a rock band he formed with his classmates.
