Charmaine Yang, Student Affairs Manager/Graduate Advisor
(Pronouns: she/her/hers)
Charmaine Yang received her M.A. in Postsecondary Educational Leadership with a Specialization in Student Affairs from San Diego State University, and holds a B.S. in Cognitive Psychology from UC San Diego. Charmaine first began working at UC San Diego as a Graduate Assistant/University Representative for the Office of Student Accountability, Growth, and Education, while also working as an Academic Coach for students with learning disabilities. Charmaine worked for the Department of Cognitive Science as an Undergraduate Advisor, and most recently, as their Graduate Advisor.
Charmaine grew up in a small agricultural town in the Central Valley before making her way to San Diego as an Undergraduate back in 2016. Charmaine grew up playing the Alto Saxophone for 10 years, and learned other instruments such as the Piano, Vibraphone, and Clarinet. She enjoyed the rush and adrenaline from performing live (wind ensemble, jazz, marching band, & pit/percussion) as much as attending concerts. However, she always found the most joy from listening to rehearsals and practice sessions the most.
Outside of music, Charmaine is drawn to student-centered work surrounding student retention and restorative justice. She strongly believes that everyone is capable of learning if given the opportunity to do so, and is proud to work for the UC San Diego community. She enjoys trying new restaurants, cooking, paddle boarding, writing, and KBBQ. Fun Fact about Charmaine: she loves love and married her high school sweetheart from 2013!
