Stagehand Job Classifications
- STAGEHAND I: Trainee / Assistant II, 4921
- Everyone starts here.
- Assist in basic tasks such as movement of equipment and instruments, as well as staging pieces.
- Assist in the set-up and strike of technical equipment for various public events.
- Work effectively as part of a team under close supervision of managers and more skilled technicians.
- On the crew scheduler: sign up for events on “Trainee” calls
- STAGEHAND II: Experienced / Assistant II
- Successfully complete one term as a trainee.
- Complete required University training:IIPP, Sexual Harassment online training, plus demonstrated skills listed within reclass form.
- Assist in basic tasks such as movement of lighting equipment and musical instruments, as well as stage equipment.
- Assist in the set-up and strike for various public events.
- Assist/Lead in specific tasks described by managers or Student Work Leaders.
- On the crew scheduler: sign up for events on “Crew” calls
- May check out CPMC key card and crew keys.
- STAGEHAND III: Advanced / Assistant III, 4920
- One academic year as a Stagehand, plus demonstrated skills listed within reclass form.
- Assist with set up, operation, and strike of lighting and audio equipment in Music Department venues
- Provide leadership for 1-2 member teams to accomplish specific tasks described by Managers.
- Independently operate lighting and sound equipment. Frequently work on personnel lifts to adjust lighting equipment and draperies.
- Assist with set-up of stage equipment (risers, tables, chairs).
- STAGEHAND IV: Work Leader / Assistant IV, 4919
- One academic year as an Advanced Stagehand, and proven demonstrated skills listed within reclass form.
- Direct a crew in the set up, operation, and strike of lighting & audio equipment in all Music Department venues.
- Assist with the training of Trainees and Stagehands.
- Repair equipment as needed.
- Independently operate lighting and sound equipment.
- Frequently work on personnel lifts to adjust lighting equipment and draperies.
- Assist with set up of stage equipment (risers, tables, chairs).
- Act as event manager for public events, as assigned.
- Work Leader advancement is by interview and reclassification form submission. All candidates must show proven leadership and proficiency.

REPORTING TIME: HELPFUL HINTS
• The work week is Sunday (12:00 a.m.) through Saturday (11:59 p.m.)
• The pay period runs two weeks, as detailed in the calendars: Payroll calendars for 2024.
• Time submittals are due by Saturday at midnight!!!
• Don't forget to hit “COMPLETE" at the end of the pay period to submit your timesheet. "Save" will not report your time.

2. Download the mobile app to your phone.
3. Set your availability (in the app).
4. Start taking calls! - You may take calls as a TRAINEE.
5. Adjust your notifications on the app. Do you want to be pinged every time a call is added - during your availability? Your call!

All UC employees are required by California law to complete basic safety training, employees should register to attend the in-person Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) training through the UC Learning Center. The program's purpose is to help employees understand and avoid on-the-job risks.
To virtually attend the Injury and Illness Prevention Program:

Dress Code
WORK & REHEARSAL CALLS, All Venues:
SHOW CALLS:
- Jeans or sturdy shorts, or similar work pants (no skirts - bad news there!), t-shirt or similar, closed toed sturdy shoes. (No "ballet flats", flip-flops, jelly shoes, excessive heeled or open toed shoes.)
SHOW CALLS:
- Concert Hall and Mandeville: Show Blacks - Music Department Polo and black slacks or NICE black jeans. (Primarily) Black shoes (Chucks are okay).
- 122/127: MusicDepartment black polo or t-shirt and black or (dark) blue jeans. (Primarily) Black or dark shoes (Chucks are okay).
